Remembering EarthCraft Achievement: Part 1

On October 19, Southface will celebrate the EarthCraft Celebration of Excellence, an annual award ceremony that recognizes builders, architects, developers and contractors for their commitment to exceptional sustainable building design and performance. Founded by Southface and the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association in 1999, EarthCraft is a green building certification program that aims to combat the climate, water and energy challenges of the Southeast through green and sustainable construction. For the past 18 years, the program has certified more than 45,000 homes, offices and communities and has been seen as an industry leader in sustainable practices and building energy performance. As we gear up for an evening of celebration and achievement, we will be periodically highlighting past winners of EarthCraft excellence. For a complete list of past winners, please click here.

2016 Winner: Quail Run Road

Builder: Imery Group

Winner of the 2016 Award of Excellence, this Atlanta home received three certifications: EarthCraft Platinum, ENERGY STAR and the Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready. The home is a beautiful example of aesthetics and green building practices to create exceptional sustainable design. More important still is the energy savings of this energy-efficient house; the homeowner reported 30 percent energy savings compared to their previous home.

2014 Winner: Euclid Avenue

Builder: Heirloom Custom Build

This beautiful home, located in the historic Inman Park neighborhood of Atlanta, is a stunning display of quality craftsmanship and high performance. In addition to its historic design, this home received EarthCraft, ENERGY STAR, Indoor Air Plus and Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready certifications. What truly sets this home apart is its attention to sustainable detail; in a region plagued by water conservation concerns, this Atlanta house installed WaterSense labeled fixtures which use 20 percent less water and energy than their counterparts.

2013 Winner: Bosch Experience Center at Serenbe

Located at the nationally-recognized Serenbe community of Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia, this facility received the 2014 EarthCraft Light Commercial Project of the Year. The Bosch Experience Center is a community, learning and education space and also serves as a showroom for Bosch’s energy efficiency and renewable energy appliances. The Center is a beacon of high performance, using low-flow water fixtures, solar photovoltaics and geothermal heating and cooling systems. It also serves as a physical reflection of Bosch’s continued commitment to sustainable building practices and protecting the environment for future generations.
